How often the broken break!
Am I breaking or am I broken?

When the world is vapor,
when life is a mist,
when we chase after human saviors
and our hope hangs in the darkness.

Whose fingers dip in ash,
whose feet still persevere,
whose life is scarred by lashes
but whose eyes refuse to tear.

How often the broken break!
Am I breaking or am I broken?

Where rain and thunder roll,
where the river pulls,
where happiness is bought and sold
but where peace in freedom is found in full.

What makes a life worthwhile,
what keeps a person whole,
what lifts from the dark to stay a while
and live a spiraled path to a life well-told.

How often the broken break!
Am I breaking or am I broken?
